Three new records on opening day at the Junior Tarbet

We sincerely thank you, My Lord Bishop Rt. Emmanuel Fernando for gracing this occasion as our Chief Guest in the midst of your busy schedule. Education for Leadership, When looking around the globe, we see human leadership is in a state of crisis starting from home front, country and world at large, due to lack of proper leadership and it is imperative that educators understand their responsibility in shaping and producing true leaders to make this world a better place for generations to come.

The students entrusted to us would be the next generation who would take up leadership and forming them to take up the challenge ahead of them is not an easy task by any means.

School administrators, teachers, parents and students should discern their part in forming better leaders for tomorrow. Although a handful of true leaders are found around us, in general, I assume potentials of true leadership has not blossomed and materialized in the lives of those who lead us today.

My understanding is that leadership should not be restricted and viewed only in political fields, business environments, large organizations and institutions.

Leadership qualities be instilled in homes, neighbourhood, among peer groups and friends. Effective leadership starts in core social units which could make a world of a difference in our society that has been ignored and considered least important today and due to this the price that is being paid by the society is very costly.

The leadership in large organizations have taken special care and efforts to train and form young leaders to be better leaders. Nevertheless unpaid leadership is equally more important for the existence of the society which is taken for granted and belittled its role and that has caused the decadence of the society at large.

Catholic Church has understood the need for leadership and the Catholic schools and institutions are part of Her efforts in remedying the crisis. It is apparent that leadership has nothing to do with titles. Titles do not make you a good leader because I believe that one could be a leader among ones peer group, family, classroom without having a title. Warran Bennis says, "Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality". According to Bill Gates; founder of Microsoft organization "As we look into the next century, leaders will be those who empower others".

Yet I still prefer the definition given by Kevin Kruse, "Leadership is a process of social influence, which maximizes the efforts of others, towards the achievement of a goal".
